Important Family Letter - March 26, 2020

March 26, 2020

Dear GAES Families,

Please know that you are all in our hearts and minds during the COVID-19 school closure. We have been busy here at school continuing to keep things moving in an environment where change is fluid.

I encourage you to view the Greencastle-Antrim School District website at www.gcasd.org to access some free online resources. Additionally, your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you next week with some additional enrichment resources. Specifically, EducationCity or Freckle (depending on your child’s teacher) will be used in Grades 3-5, as well as some other optional resources that your teacher feels would be valuable. For more information click on “EducationCity at Home” or “Freckle at Home: A Guide for Families” so that you can begin to familiarize yourself with these resources. You will not need to create an account, as your child already has one through the school. Account login information will be sent to you from your child’s teacher. Many students are already familiar with these online learning platforms; however, they may need your assistance logging in at home.

In the event the COVID-19 school closure extends beyond Easter Break, our teachers will be prepared to deliver more specific and tailored distance learning opportunities. I have the utmost confidence in our GAES teachers that they will give this their absolute best faith effort and provide meaningful activities with the same dedication and passion as they do when they are in the classroom. I want to assure you that while we greatly value education, we also want to be mindful to balance the workload with reasonable time expectations while at home. This is not meant to be stressful; you know best what you and your child can handle.

I am so proud of our dedicated school staff. Our custodians have been working hard to clean everything for our return to school. Our food service staff continues to prepare meals for the community. We are nearing 1,000 breakfasts and lunches served on each day of distribution.

I know this is a difficult time and want to provide the support you need. Please email me or your classroom teacher if you have any questions. We have the best students, families and teachers – we’ve got this! Take care and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Chad Stover
