STAR! Reading Leveled Literacy Intervention

A reading intervention program is one that prevents or stops reading failure. Here at GAES we use the Leveled Literacy Intervention system developed by Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. The system is a small group, pull-out intervention program that is used in conjunction with the regular classroom instruction in reading and language arts.

Through the use of authentic fiction and nonfiction literature, instruction focuses on reading, discussion of meaning, vocabulary, fluency, phonics, word study and writing about reading. When students struggle, STAR provides a comfortable, low-stress atmosphere to practice and master the variety of strategies necessary to achieve grade-level proficiency.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. - Robert Collier
